Death March: Book 1 in a LitRPG Trilogy

Created by Philip Tucker

The purpose of the Death March Kickstarter was to raise money to commission gorgeous interior artwork for the first novel in my upcoming fantasy trilogy, as well as produce a hardcover version.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Funding level is almost over 9000
about 6 years ago – Mon, May 07, 2018 at 06:04:58 PM

As of this update we're at $8,972. Thank you everyone! I wanted to kick this week off with a couple of updates, a sneak preview of the next stretch goal, and a few other items of interest.

Project Updates:

  • Backer @Jennifer asked if I'd be including the interior artwork with the audiobooks in the same manner that Felicia Day did with her project. I think that's a great idea and am going to look into how I can make that happen.
  • Death March is still the most backed live fiction Kickstarter in the US.
  • Death March is still the most funded live fiction Kickstarter in the US.
  • With the votes tallied, it looks like we're going to be going with Bookmark #5. Thanks everyone for voting.
(I have to admit it's my favorite.)

Sneak Preview of Stretch Goal #4

Can't wait to share this one...
Can't wait to share this one...

I'm pretty thrilled to announce this one: six fantasy author friends of mine have agreed to bundle their first in series as a reward to everyone pledging at the eBook level and higher ($8/$10+)

These novels are:

That's a $25+ bundle that everyone will be receiving if we fund, and even better, these are excellent novels. Please help get the word out so we can crush Stretch Goal #3 and then cruise on to this bundle!

Other Projects

One of the best aspects of the Kickstarter platform is its community. Many of my pledges have come from folks who found me by browsing Kickstarter, so I thought it would be great to give back by linking to other projects that are currently running as well.

Here's one I thought you guys might enjoy: Dolmen, a horror RPG inspired by SoulBourne with over 1150 backers.

"The team at Massive Work Studio could not be more grateful for the 1150 backers that have put their faith in the developer’s chilling SoulsBorne-inspired Horror ARPG. With two days to go on their Kickstarter campaign, the demo is now free on Crytivo and Steam stores, download it NOW!"

Stretch Goal #1: annihilated!
about 6 years ago – Mon, May 07, 2018 at 03:25:32 PM

Last night we hit fully funded, and this morning we stormed straight past the first stretch goal. Incredible.

I'll now be able to commission interior artwork from Ben Juniu for Nightmare Keep, Book 2 of the Euphoria Online trilogy. Some of you have asked if this interior art will be included in the trade paperback version, and I'm happy to say that it absolutely will. I'm also going to try to insert it into the ebooks as well, so hopefully every version will feature these enhancements.

Except audio, I guess. Maybe I could ask Vikas to pause and describe each picture as he comes across it...? Maybe not.

Either way, on to Stretch Goal #2: interior art for Killer Dungeon, Book 3 of the trilogy!

-------------------------------------------

Quick update on how the Kickstarter's doing:

  • We're now the most popular publishing project on Earth.
  • We're also the most backed live fiction project in the world
  • We're also the the most funded live fiction project in the world

Which... is madness. Thanks everyone for keeping the momentum going, and I'm going to unveil the next stretch goal when we hit $8,500 (if I didn't just jinx everything.)

Cheers!

I'm placing the Bookmark stretch goal banner on the project page now, but know that I'll change the image to whichever we vote on here. The current one is just a placeholder :)

Project Update:

I've already begun working with Ampersand Book Interiors on the layout for the hardcovers and trade paperbacks, with my intention being to order and ship them out as quickly as I can once the Kickstarter ends. The only variable is how long it will take Ben Juniu to create the interior artwork, but he's promised me the second piece by the end of next week.

Thanks again for all your support!

Fully funded in little over 12 hours!
about 6 years ago – Wed, May 02, 2018 at 10:01:57 AM

Talk about an amazing start! Thanks to 175 of you amazing people we hit the 100% funded mark in just over 12 hours.

Even more amazing?

  • Death March is currently the the most backed live Fiction Kickstarter in the US.
  • Death March is currently the the most funded live Fiction Kickstarter in the US.
  • Death March is currently the the most popular live Fiction Kickstarter in the US.

I must admit this feels slightly surreal, but I couldn't be happier with the launch. First days are always great, but things tend to slow down from here, so if you're friends with any fantasy or gaming fans please give them a shout so we can keep this going!

So - what's next? Stretch goals.

  • We're fully funded to commission interior art from Ben Juniu for Book 1, but with an additional $1,500 we can do the same for Book 2.
  • Book 3 will require another $1,500, and then all three novels will feature the kind of stunning art I've been hoping for.

But beyond that, I've got all kinds of crazy stretch goals in mind. Signed bookmarks, eBook bundles from fellow indie authors, more artwork, a Roll20 rpg module - I'll get into more detail as we progress, but suffice to say this ride is just getting started.

Again, thank you for the support. I'll keep updating you guys as we progress. Cheers!
